We are witnessing the birth of a new tradition, which, in a difficult current, will enable us to unite the whole generation, people with different religious, political, territorial and linguistic differences in the high love of beauty. Love to music.

May 6-8, 2016, the All-Ukrainian Festival of Brass Orchestras and Majorets “The Royal Lion” was held in Lviv for the first time. Participants of the project are brass bands, majorets groups of Lviv, Lviv region, and other countries.

Due to the limited number of such festivals in Ukraine and the great interest in holding such a festival in Lviv, from the side of the collectives of Ukraine and other countries, this project is needed both for the general raising of the performing arts of brass bands and the development of such a choreographic direction as “majorets” and for viewing this kind of art, the broad sections of the population, in connection with the availability and publicity of concert performances, marching parades and show depictions.

The program of the festival provided:

  • Parade march through the streets of the city
  • concert performances on the squares
  • Show the show-defile of orchestras
  • performances of the majeure accompanied by the orchestra
  • joint performance by all orchestras of pre-defined works

  • presentation of musical instruments, accessories and music literature.

It is important to note that the orchestras performed not only in the central part of the city, but also in one of the largest districts of Lviv – Sikhiv. A wider advertising company was planned and executed in order to attract the maximum number of inhabitants to this artistic event. Special interest was expected on the part of youth, student and student age, as they were able to directly familiarize themselves with the art of playing on wind instruments, mastered the basics of playing percussion instruments, saw features of collective performance of musical works and public appearances.

A Sikhiv record was established – about 300 musicians performed simultaneously the Anthem of Ukraine and the Povstansky march of Lviv composer Bogdan Sapelyuk.

Thus, the main purpose of the festival is clearly outlined – it is the popularization and development of the brass and choreographic art, the exchange of experience among the groups, the search for new forms of creative activity, the enrichment of the cultural heritage of our city and the creation of new artistic traditions

THE DREAM OF ONE MAN

They say that a dream builds a person, and a person builds a dream. One person’s dream has become a cultural heritage of the musical school, the city, and now it becomes the property of the country. The Festival of Brass Orchestras and Majorets “Royal Lion” was created on the initiative of Andriyn Leskiv – conductor and artistic director of the Lviv Fanfares Orchestra, director of the LCSOA No. 5, the author of many translations and arrangements for the orchestra (a grate of the Lviv Music Academy, a participant in many international festivals of brass band in Italy, Poland, Germany, France, Holland, Ukraine, Russia. Andriyan Leskiv tirelessly contributes to the development and improvement of this festival.

Within the framework of the project, such events as creative meetings of team leaders, joint rehearsals of collectives, marches of parades on the streets of the city, concert performances on the city streets, joint performance by all orchestras of pre-defined works, demonstration of the show – defile orchestras, performances of major programs accompanied by an orchestra, presentation musical instruments and accessories, presentation of music literature. The Festival of Brass Orchestras and Majorets “Royal Lion” is a unique combination of the main cultural currents in the Ukrainian musical space. This is a synthesis of the ancient art of wind music and modern trends in this art. “The Royal Lion” is an attempt to restore the long-forgotten and create an entirely new one, because in the era of nation-wide awakening, on the verge of millennium, people return to their origins, to their roots. That is why, at such an important time for Ukraine, such “cultural explosions” as the festival “Royal Lion”, give a chance to start a good tradition. A tradition that can attract different generations, different world perceptions, different tastes in music.  A tradition that will become an integral part of culture, and will also form a new Ukraine in the cultural and musical field.
